The first shopper made from masks

So that NIKIN cloth masks don't end up in landfills

For NIKIN, circularity means finding solutions to valuable recycle and reuse old, no longer used materials. Always with the goal of returning materials to the cycle. The partnership with the German recycling expert TURNS enables us to do just that.

TURNS specializes in fiber-to-fiber circularity and recovers yarns from collected used clothing – whether mono-material or mixed fibers – that can be used for high-quality textiles. Thanks to this innovative recycling technology, we have also been able to breathe new life into our old NIKIN cloth masks.

Give NIKIN fabric masks a second life

Give NIKIN fabric masks a second life

Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, our shopper also represents a metamorphosis: once a NIKIN fabric mask, the TreeShopper now lives its second life thanks to TURNS' innovative recycling technology. By purchasing a TreeShopper, you are not only actively helping to minimize piles of old clothes, but also giving an old product a second life. In doing so, you are always carrying the statement of being resource-efficient, circular, and environmentally friendly.

How does the fiber-to-fiber cycle work?

    Fabric reception at TURNS

TURNS collects used clothing that is no longer suitable for second-hand. The special feature: both mono-materials and mixed fibers can be recycled. Our old NIKIN fabric masks are also analyzed to optimally process their fibers.

    Sorting and preparation

In a second step, the masks are disassembled into their individual components and sorted by material, color, and quality. This ensures that only suitable components enter the subsequent recycling process.

    Fiber Recovery

The mechanical recycling process carefully separates the fibers from their original fabric structure to extract only the high-quality, long fibers. These then form the basis for new textiles.

    Yarn production

The reclaimed fibers are mixed with virgin fibers in the Netherlands and spun into new yarn. This makes the yarns robust, durable, and ready for a new product life.

    Manufacturing the TreeShopper

The yarn is further processed in Italy: this is where our new TreeShopper is created, including the integrated inner pocket made from an original mask and a butterfly print as a symbol of new life.
