Nachhaltigkeit muss nicht zu teuer sein! - NIKIN CH

One of the first definitions of sustainability can be found in Carl Carlowitz's work "Sylvicultura oeconomica," which deals with forestry. According to this work, only as much of a forest should be cut down as can regenerate naturally within a certain period of time. Thus, respectful treatment of our environment has always been a priority. However, this article will not anticipate the fact that global deforestation suggests a somewhat different interpretation of this former definition. So let's stick with sustainability!

Stainless steel instead of plastic

This can be implemented in many ways in everyday life. For example, you can avoid PET bottles and choose a stainless steel bottle as an alternative. Or you can start with your diet and, in keeping with the motto "local instead of global," pay attention to seasonal and regional products that don't have to travel long distances (or even no transport at all). Given the possibility of shopping online, we should be even more aware of how sustainable individual shopping actually is. When we click quickly, we are often unaware that our purchasing decisions influence the production, transport, and trade of goods.

Affordable and sustainable for everyone

So instead of hunting for the cheapest possible food or discounted clothing, sustainability should be the focus here too. Fortunately, sustainability is no longer a foreign concept for many clothing brands. We've already found several examples in Switzerland that show that sustainable shopping is entirely possible and advisable. There is one tiny problem with sustainably produced clothing: the price! Since younger people in particular are well-versed in online shopping and interested in NIKIN, we're targeting them as well. In our opinion, everyone can be sustainable without having to spend a lot of money.

Sustainability is a process

With our concept, we want to give everyone the chance to do something good for a small amount of money. At NIKIN, we are nevertheless aware that we are not yet as sustainable as we would like to be. However, in order to offer 100% sustainable products, we need capital and, above all, time! NIKIN was launched just two and a half years ago – with just CHF 5,000 as a starting budget. Since then, we have been doing everything we can to move in an ecological direction and are continuously searching for new and more sustainable materials for our products, such as the "reTreeanie" made from recycled jeans.

At NIKIN, we therefore focus on sensible sustainability . While our products are not (yet) 100% sustainable, they are priced so affordably that everyone can contribute and at least partially live up to Carlowitz's definition by planting a tree with a small contribution.
