Unser Baumpflanzprojekt im Januar: Argentinien - NIKIN CH

A project with many ecological benefits

The Sierras Grandes de Córdoba region is suffering from the effects of fires, erosion, and livestock farming. The focus of this project is on reforesting these dry and barren areas. On the one hand, we want to make the soil more resilient and restore habitats for flora and fauna. At the same time, we aim to increase the flow of water in the surrounding rivers. Polylepis trees are also highly fire-resistant and moisture-retaining, creating evergreen areas. This greening contributes to CO2 sequestration and local cooling.

Five project groups

Our project is divided into five groups. First, suitable areas are identified, around which a second group builds cattle fences to protect the future seedlings and the general flora. The third group first collects Polylepis seeds in the region, which they then cultivate in their own nursery and hand over to the next group for planting. The fifth group is responsible for the regular inspection of the cattle fences and the scientific measurement of the project's impact.

Community participation and local impact

As always, close collaboration with the local community is central to this project. The five groups are made up of people from the local community. Thanks to the diverse tasks, this project allows for participation from people with diverse interests and practical backgrounds. Thus, through its ecological impact, the project not only improves the quality of life of the people in the Pampa de Achala region but also creates local jobs. The latter also increases the economic attractiveness of the region.
