6 Funktionen von Bäumen - Wieso du Bäume verschenken sollst - NIKIN CH

There are many reasons why trees are particularly important for the global ecosystem. But trees have also been proven to be beneficial for the human psyche. We have summarized some of the benefits in the following six points:

1) Air

Trees create the conditions for the existence of complex organisms such as humans and animals by carrying out photosynthesis. In this process, all plants convert CO2 into oxygen: they absorb the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, use it to produce sugar and starch for their own growth, and release oxygen, as it were, as a waste product. The CO2, which cannot be used by humans and animals, is thus converted into essential O2.

2) Cooling

Dense plant cover shields the ground, providing valuable shade. Evaporation, i.e. the release of moisture, also contributes to the general cooling of the planet. For these reasons, greening is particularly important in cities, where sealed ground and concrete buildings prevail, to create a pleasant summer climate. In the global ecosystem, the large forests of the world, with their extensive spread, are indispensable - because they contribute to the cooling of the entire planet and thus maintain the habitat of countless animals.

Speaking of cool: We are already in the middle of the cold season. Browse through our winter collection and discover fluffy Treeanies, warming TreeSweaters and cozy TreeSocks. So you can stay comfortably warm at all times without having to turn up the heating. This not only saves heating costs but also conserves valuable energy resources!

3) Water

Trees bind moisture and thus supply fresh water to streams, rivers and lakes. In the tropical rainforests in equatorial regions, this function is particularly obvious. These areas are often very humid and the trees provide important, potable fresh water for animals and humans.

4) Protection

Trees and forests serve as natural protection in various regions. In coastal regions, for example, mangroves offer numerous animal species a sheltered refuge for their young. At the same time, they protect human settlements from floods and flash floods. Inland, forests have also always served as a retreat for humans and animals. They provide a protected place for vital recreation and regeneration and enable the maintenance of food chains.

5) Habitat and Food Source

Trees and forests provide their own saplings with a safe space to grow and thus also invite other plants to settle around them. The combination of young and old plants serves as a food source for various animals - from tiny insects to elephants. In this way, trees create a protected habitat and enable flora and fauna to live together symbiotically.

6) Aesthetics

Trees are beautiful. The aesthetic value of trees is also important, especially for humans. We enjoy their sight and almost immediately notice the soothing influence they exert when walking in the forest. In Japan, there is even a name for consciously slowing down in the forest: "Forest bathing".

For the reasons mentioned above, it is essential to preserve forests and plant trees if we want to preserve our planet for future generations. The blue planet must continue to shine in vibrant green in the future. NIKIN has therefore made it its mission to plant trees.

How NIKIN is involved

NIKIN has built a tree-planting community. Together with this, we organize various events throughout the year such as forest workshops, CleanupDays and TreePlantingDays, where you can learn more about the wonder "tree" and also actively contribute to the preservation of nature yourself - be it by removing waste from nature or planting young trees. But you can also help make the world a greener place from home: NIKIN plants a tree for every product sold, in cooperation with One Tree Planted.

Giving gifts to nature

Our consumption behavior peaks every year around Christmas - and thus harms various natural resources. Since we all still enjoy Christmas gifts, we recommend resorting to sustainable brands. If you give NIKIN products as gifts, you are not only giving gifts to your loved ones, but also to nature. This minimizes your impact and allows you to enjoy the most beautiful time of the year without a guilty conscience.

PS: Discover in this blog how you can also wrap your sustainable Christmas gifts in a resource-saving way!
