This year, together with our partner, OneTreePlanted , and many volunteers, we'll be planting approximately 5,000-8,000 trees in the US state of Colorado ! We're thrilled to be a part of it, lending a hand, and giving something back to the planet. We'll keep you updated on social media!

Earth Day 2019

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day originated as a spontaneous student initiative, but quickly gained momentum and was formalized at the 1969 UNESCO conference in San Francisco. For half a century, it has drawn attention to the beauty of our planet—and the threats it faces. Earth Day is formally celebrated in 190 countries worldwide. Cities and communities, volunteer organizations, and private individuals strive to encourage greater sustainability.

What is the purpose of Earth Day?

Earth Day takes place every year on April 22nd. Its primary purpose is to raise awareness and, above all, to demonstrate the connections between individual consumer behavior and the exploitation of nature. Earth Day is not just a celebration, it's a call to action!

What is actually done on Earth Day?

Earth Day is primarily known for the one-hour light-off period around the world. But Earth Day is much more than that. Every year, there are special focuses and events organized by volunteers around the world. They draw attention to specific issues – this year, the focus is on the threat to species, which are presented in their uniqueness and irreplaceability, from small insects like bees to the large mammal giraffe.

Does Earth Day make a difference?

Yes, absolutely. It raises awareness of the problem and its urgency. Thanks to Earth Day, more and more people are learning that even small actions and a little mindfulness can make a difference. Use less water. Avoid using plastic where possible. Leave the car at home more often. Rethink your attitude toward consumption and its consequences. Earth Day aims to achieve all of this, worldwide.

Who is doing something?

Countless volunteers around the world are actively involved in making every Earth Day a memorable and thought-provoking day. Businesses are also joining in. Our partner at NIKIN, One Tree Planted, gives volunteers the opportunity to spend an entire morning planting trees – in select plantations in North and South America, as well as in Antalya, Turkey.

Earth Day: Just join in!

But you don't have to shoulder a shovel on Earth Day. Practically each of us can do a dozen things in our immediate surroundings that help preserve our planet's treasures. Therefore, we ask you: Think about everything you pick up on Earth Day and ask yourself: What impact does this object have? This food? This behavior? And: What can I personally do just a little differently to mitigate these impacts? You'll see – it's usually not particularly restrictive. And every single person can help.
