Hiking is becoming increasingly popular again – partly due to the coronavirus pandemic. But it has always been good for body and mind. Hiking offers a variety of benefits. For one thing, doctors and sports medicine specialists recommend walking as an all-around form of exercise that benefits our bodies, even if we're not doing strenuous exercise. Walking is free exercise in everyday life.
Pure relaxation while hiking
Hiking also means getting out into nature, exploring the countryside, meadows, forests, or mountains, and leaving the stresses of civilization completely behind. Soaking up oxygen and sunshine, experiencing plants and animals, and recharging your batteries. Anyone who has ever taken part in a long hike in a charming landscape is fascinated and wants to continue.

Plus points for the immune system
Regular exercise is not only good for the soul, but also strengthens the immune system and circulatory system. It's not for nothing that 10,000 steps a day are recommended; when hiking or walking, it's the consistency that counts. Those who take the time and exercise daily live longer – and better. Once you get the hang of it, you can gradually increase your workload. Then, even hikes lasting several days are possible.

Run alone or in groups
In addition to developing mindfulness, experiencing the health benefits of exercise, and enjoying nature, hiking is also an activity that can be done according to your mood. Solo hikers can set off (with the necessary safety) as well as sociable people who set off in a group with like-minded people.
Good food while hiking: Which snacks should you take with you?
In addition to the actual hiking, hiking breaks are also important and extremely enjoyable. With the right snacks, they're a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Depending on the terrain, hiking burns calories that need to be replaced throughout the day, and drinking water is also important—water, of course. ;-)

So, water should be in your pack, even if you occasionally find streams and drinking fountains along the way. Especially on warm days, you can easily lose up to 4 liters of water on a hike. And since you also lose minerals through sweat, snacks along the way should help compensate for this. A little insider tip: refill your water bottle with fresh water at every opportunity, because you never know when the next opportunity will arise. And by the way, nowhere else does water stay pleasantly cool as long as in our TreeBottle (up to 24 hours).
Small sources of energy when hiking include:
- Energy and muesli bars
- Nuts
- glucose
- Dried fruit and fresh fruit

If you don't have a "gas station" for a lunch break on a longer hike, it's a good idea to bring a packed lunch. Whole-grain bread, cheese and sausage if you like, and even salads prepared at home in sealable containers are fine for the hike and can be unpacked for lunch at a particularly scenic spot. Small snacks provide an energy boost when you feel faint after strenuous hikes.
Hiking snacks and meals: Together it works even better
When hiking in a group, you can plan healthy snacks together, so that preparation – and transport – is shared among all participants. This makes for a particularly varied lunch break, as well as occasional stops. Good, healthy food plays a significant role in the enjoyment of hiking.
