Why Transparency in Fashion is so Important
Where and how are clothes actually made? What materials are used, and what journeys do they take before ending up in our wardrobes? Questions like these are often difficult to answer. This is because we usually only see the finished product, but not the journey to get there. However, we believe that this is exactly where true sustainability begins. When what is usually hidden becomes visible, responsibility becomes tangible, and nothing can be whitewashed or concealed. This automatically makes transparency key to honest, sustainable decisions. For us at NIKIN, it is therefore not a bonus, but a must. We want to know, and above all, show where our products come from, how they are made, and who is involved in their creation.

Why we work with retraced – and who is behind it
To enable true transparency, data and modern technologies are needed. With retraced, we have found exactly that. The start-up from Düsseldorf has developed a platform that digitally, securely, and traceably maps every stage of a product. The data is stored, checked, and verified decentrally in a blockchain. This allows us to disclose our entire supply chain – and show you what often remains hidden.
How does it work exactly?
- Our production partners record their sustainability and production data directly with retraced.
- The information is checked and verified by the platform – for maximum reliability.
- Each NIKIN garment is provided with a QR code, to which the collected data is linked.
- You scan the code with your smartphone and learn everything about the origin, processing, and standards.
retraced also complements this information with pictures, videos, and stories that make the people and places behind the product visible. This creates more clarity, more trust – and above all, more responsibility.

What does this mean for the future?
The collaboration with retraced is an important component of our sustainable strategy. We want to map our supply chains even more completely, exercise our responsibility even more transparently – and help you make conscious purchasing decisions. Not all NIKIN products are currently linked with retraced, but in the future, all our garments will be provided with a QR code, so that every product becomes transparent and traceable – whether you buy your new NIKIN product in the TreeHouse or online from us.
You can also easily check which products are already fully traceable: In our webshop, under the product description, you will find the "See Transparency Report" button. One click – and you can see in detail where, how, and by whom your garment was made.
