Neun Vorteile von Second-Hand-Kleidung - NIKIN CH
Second-hand clothing is sustainable

NIKIN strives to find the best possible compromise between sustainable and affordable fashion. But let's be honest: The most sustainable and probably also the most cost-effective option would be to avoid new clothing altogether. While we're naturally delighted that you've already planted over 700,000 trees with us, we don't want to deprive you of the benefits of secondhand clothing.

The nine biggest advantages of second hand

  1. Cheaper prices

Secondhand goods are significantly cheaper than new products. Discounts of 70 percent or more are not uncommon and can significantly ease the burden on your wallet. So, if you want to save money while still expanding your wardrobe, you should browse secondhand stores. There are plenty of great bargains waiting for you.

  1. Environmental protection during production

With every new piece of clothing, raw materials are processed and emissions are released. The transport of raw materials to the production site and from there to the seller also consumes resources. By purchasing secondhand instead of new items, these environmental impacts can be avoided. You may have a new piece of clothing in your closet, but no new damage is being caused to the environment.

  1. Less waste

Clothes that are no longer worn are either donated or disposed of. Anything that is no longer usable is incinerated, releasing toxic fumes into the atmosphere. Buying a secondhand item of clothing extends its lifespan and thus delays its environmental impact. And who knows, you might even pass on your secondhand item when you're done wearing it. The longer the lifespan of a garment, the better for our environment.

  1. Children benefit twice

Secondhand clothing is ideal for children in two ways. Firstly, the items are usually only worn a few times, as children grow quickly. This means they show little wear and tear and can be easily reused. Secondly, new clothing for children is particularly unsustainable. This is because children often only fit into their clothes for a few months before outgrowing them and need new ones. Therefore, new clothing for children should be purchased carefully.

  1. There is nothing that does not exist

Shoes, scarves, jackets, hats, pants: The list of available secondhand clothes is endless. Did you know that wedding dresses can also be purchased secondhand? There's practically no clothing that can't be bought secondhand. Anything that can be bought new can also be found in secondhand shops. So you have the entire selection there, too.

  1. Health benefits

Used clothing is generally safer than new products. This is because frequent washing removes harmful chemicals. This offers significant advantages, especially for people with allergies or small children.

  1. The quality

Second-hand clothing is usually of top quality. This can be seen in the fact that the clothing hasn't worn out despite frequent wear. If the clothing is available in a second-hand store, it has been inspected for defects and must meet certain minimum standards. Only items in good condition are offered.

  1. The fun factor

Strolling through a flea market is fun and a memorable experience. You meet new people, strike up conversations, and perhaps find some exciting unique items. Anyone visiting a flea market or secondhand shop with friends or family is guaranteed to have plenty to marvel at and discuss. A great outing is guaranteed.

  1. The individuality

Those who buy clothes at a flea market rather than off the rack will come across truly unique pieces. These help create a unique style. Every garment has a story to tell. And those who shop at a flea market might even be able to learn from the seller what the item has been through.

First National Second Hand Day

The first national Second Hand Day will take place in Switzerland on September 26th. Its goal is to challenge everyday consumer behavior. Over 250 different events will take place on this day. Flea markets will be organized, special promotions will be offered on online shops, and second-hand shops will be open. Anyone who wants to be part of Second Hand Day can find all the events at https://www.secondhandday.ch/ .
