Unser Baumpflanzprojekt im Dezember, Januar und März liegt uns besonders am Herzen: Wiederaufforstung in Sete Lagoas, Brasilien

From donation to trees: This project is a success in two respects

This isn't the first time we've collaborated with the Terrenus organization, whose tree-planting project we're supporting in December, January, and March. A few months ago, we made a donation of CHF 80,000 to NIKIN. This donation was crucial in enabling the creation of a new NGO that will now drive the project forward and dedicate itself entirely to reforestation. This is a success story even before the first tree was planted with NIKIN in Sete Lagoas—and that's just the beginning.

Project location: Sete Lagoas in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Why is the Cerrado so important for our tree planting project?

The Cerrado in the municipality of Sete Lagoas is one of the most biodiverse biomes in the world, yet unfortunately it is under enormous pressure. Deforestation, urbanization, and intensive agriculture are endangering not only the unique landscape and local biodiversity, but also important water resources and the ability to store carbon. To counteract this destruction, the Reforest-Cerrado project was launched. Restoring degraded areas and promoting biodiversity will take place in two phases:

  • Phase 1 begins with tree planting and long-term maintenance in degraded areas of the APA Santa Helena in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais.
  • Phase 2 expands reforestation to other locations in the Cerrado to achieve an even greater positive impact on the region.
30,000 seedlings will be Reforestation project planted.

And while reforestation projects always have clear ecological goals, this project also aims to promote social and economic development in the area. Thus, the project creates jobs in the region and leaves a sustainable legacy for future generations. The goals of the entire Cerrado project therefore encompass four key areas:

  • Promote biodiversity: Create new habitats for numerous plant and animal species.
  • Carbon sequestration: A contribution to mitigating climate change.
  • Improving water quality: Protecting the region's valuable water resources.
  • Creating jobs: Local communities are directly involved in the project.

NIKIN gets involved and helps with reforestation on site

This project is a shining example of how local initiatives can tackle global problems. It shows how commitment and collaboration can have a direct positive impact on the environment and people. For Carla and Nicholas, this project is also a very special matter of the heart: Firstly, it is taking place in Carla's hometown, and secondly, Carla and Nicholas will be there in person to help plant 30,000 native seedlings. More on-site impressions will, of course, follow—after all, we don't get to be this close to every tree-planting project.

Carla and Nicholas will be there in December to help with planting.

Together for a greener world

Our commitment to the environment goes beyond planting trees. We believe in the power of community and that together we can make the world a better place. Would you like to get involved? For every NIKIN product you buy, we plant a tree. Together we're making the world greener – #treebytree!
